After a number of runs on the dyno, the Denco turbo was set at 10psi boost, where it gave best performance and ran the smoothest (to use a technical term). See previous post #17198, for additional background on fitting the turbo.

Using the old measurements (because that what the Dyno graph has on it) the peak Horsepower was 80HP and torque was 560Lb (would this be foot pounds??). 80HP works out at 60KW (at the rear wheels – I guess?).

Whatever the numbers, I can tell you that this Hilux 2.8 is a lot quicker than it was before – one very impressed Denco turbo customer!

Cheers all .. and thanks for all the advice on turbos and oils to run - Anthony

I have a 2.5td Triton 1991 and the owners handbook state s a miserly 62kw output.
It has a fair bit of grunt and in std trim would do up to 135kmh but is a bit undergeared in 5th.
It has done nearly 240000 kms & I have just returned from a hard trip to Cooktown & back to Vic (10,000kms) without putting a spanner on it or adding any oil or water.
Some time back I fitted a foam air filter & removed the plastic trumpet on the air filter & put in a right angle pvc pipe & it went somwhat better.
Then fitted a 2.5 inch exhaust & straight thru muffler (a sports would be a bit quieter) and turned up the turbo boost a bit all of which improved low & high speed performance.
Due to fuel prices I drove most of the above trip at 75-90kmh and consistently
achieved 11-12km/litre which for a heavily loaded ute which is a bit undergeared in fifth was I thought very good and I saved a few hundred $$ which was important to me but may not be to others. It will spin out easily to well past the
legal limits when passing if necessary.
In short these simple mods can add some real gains and another I almost forgot is to have the injector pump timing adjusted to the optimum setting, which may not be the manufactures fiogure.

This sounds a bit familiar.....

My 720 is reving pretty hard doing the tonne......which is why you will often find me sitting under the limit on the hwy.

I was thinking of mod'ing the spare gearbox ive got to make 5th gear a bit taller, but that would cost $$$$$$$$$$$ and lots of them, probably more than the POS is worth itself.

I've really got to get my snorkel thing happening coz im sucking in hot air from the engine may, already at 30-40 deg, by the time ive started hauling up a hill with 1.2ton load on, it doesnt take long for the turbo to warm up so that air would be entering the chamber at over 140 deg (guess work), not ideal i would say.

There is probably something to be said for intercoolers at this point but as we all know its always a mater of time or $$$. Its good to hear your economy figures, i get about the same around town on the SD25 (2.5L) with IHI turbo fitted, inj pump tuned etc. Still, the new TD motors are much better power V's economy but it will take a lot of fuel and paint work to make up the $30,000 plus i DIDN'T spend on a new 4by. I just cant get past --read-- who has the $$ to buy a new 4x4 and take it scrub and scratch thebleepout of the brand new paint work.....????? go figure?

OOooops, ive said too much, i would really love to be in that position.....really. better go before i jam my other foot in it as well...hehhehehehe...

NUTS!
