Hi everyone
I am taking my family over to Fraser for a week in early November. Although I haven't been over there for a couple of years, does anyone know what conditions are like at present eg: have they had much rain, is the sand soft at present? etc
Also they tell me Eli has changed now? I know it was treacherous before is it any better and when is the best time to cross it? Finally, is it worth going over to moon point, I have never visited that part of the island ?
thanx greg

Greg was there about six weeks ago eli now runs straight onto beach no longer follows base of
sand dune water level much lower in the
creek when i was there in fact the timber steps at the top of the
creek were cordoned off as they no longer touch the
water, could cross anytime when i was there, worth a trip to moon point totally different to east side,no waves white sand very protected, also man made roads across
mangroves worth a look just a short distance from moon point lots of history, worst place in the sand is generally on/off the barge.
Also go to the lighthouse at the top
well worth it and there is now a bypass around the ngkala rocks
Have a great trip.

Okay, thanks!
I think I'll have to have a look at the lighthouse. Will let you know how we go when return.

I'll be up there myself next week. Look out for a white NM Pajero with a SmartBar,
camping up past
Orchid Beach.

Noosa north shore ferries - 54471321 - direct to driver. over
noosa river
Fraser island barges - 1800 227 437 - or channel 4 UHF at inskip pt.
You will need to get you pass from the
ranger station in
Tewantin or
Rainbow beach or on line and they all have up to date info.
If you are coming from the south-- the trip - via
the beach -
tewantin to
rainbow beach is a great run. and the ferry at
tewantin starts at 5.30am every day of the year.
You should have no problems travelling anywhere on fraser - run
the beach at low
water times - lower you tyre pressure - if you havent been there for some time you will be surprised at the traffic - tourist traffic.- Most of the backpackers hire troopys - 11 on board - and take off.I have been going to fraser for over forty years and the only problem has been bad weather exposing rocks on
the beach.
If you want a bit of luxury- try a night or two at Yidney rocks cabins - They will sleep two families - are north facing - and the fishing out the front is usually good. About $160 per night and self contained
In november you can expect storms - so make sure that your
camp site is protected from the south easterlies- northerlies can get up to 20k but usually drop out at night.
