Hi guys.
I was hoping to go on this expedition. I emailed the guy and he said its too hot in January for guided expeditions but they're still hiring out fully equiped Hunjy's with DIY-like instructions. Has anyone done the
Canning Stock Route over the Xmas season who can comment? I've haven't had much experience 4wding but can use a elec winch, hand wince, ect ect...
Or can anyone offer an alternative? Jan is the only time that my brother and I can get off together unfortuantly :(
Gareth
P.S. Otherwise ill just go to
surfers paradise and wait for haysie to go mid-year...

Hey Gareth,
What firstly is a Hunjy? What sort of rain fall do you get during the summer months doing the Canning. It has been something I would have liked to have done over summer as this is when I have the most of my time off but as I live in
Brisbane it is a big trip and would want to do it at the right time.

Hi Gareth
Not only is it very hot in January, but there is no fuel delivery to
well 23. The other problem is it is the wet season and the CSR is often under
water. Even if it is dry when you leave you can get caught if a Cyclone comes in from the west. You will at least have the track to yourself which is also a problem it you get into trouble or breakdown. Try somewhere else for Christmas and plan a midyear holiday.

Sounds like fun :)
Looks like I might look at hiring a 4wd and go to Fraser Island...

The CSR in JANUARY!! I'm with Raymond on this one. Stinkin' hot - 45c to 50c, every chance of getting caught in the aftermath of a cyclone - you won't have to worry about
water as you'll be floating!
If you do get stuck, don't bank on anyone coming to get you except the RAAF and you can forget yer vehicle - they only rescure people.
It's plain stupid to be out there at that time of year and someone else will risking thier neck to get you out. I'm all fer having a bash around the bush but pick another time of year - please - or we'll be hearing about you on the 6 o'clock news. Probably dead.

Yeah and you'll notice i've already replied to Raymond's helpful comment. Maybe my eyes were bigger than my stomach to consider it but I am a newbie after all. You should consider rethinking your posts in future because your not helping anyone with this one.

Gareth,
I've spent a lot of time in the WA bush as a prospector - for 25 years. I've lost count of the number of times I've carried people, children, caravans, vehicles back to civilisation. Plus I've been involved in 2 search 'n rescue attempts. The last one was in 1999 - the man & his wife were almost dead. They only just made it and the caravan is probably still out there about 180 kms N.E of
Wiluna. They shouldn't have been out there.
I do get a bit angry when I see that folks that are not prepared, wrong time of year, not enough
water, vehicle not suited, can't make running repairs, no RFDS radio etc,,,,,,basically no idea that this country can kill if you don't know what it can do.
My apologies if I sound a bit harsh. I've had good reason to be.
