As I see it you can have Discover Oz running in the back ground whilst you are running ozi Explorer.
But you cannot view both of them at the same time but you can switch from one to the other, similar to running, for instance, Microsoft Word and Exel at the same time and switch from one to the other
Hope that makes sense
Cheers

Hi Eric,
It didn't take you long to get into the swing of things? LOL You have been taught
well!!
I run both but not simultaneously. To do it I reckon you would at least have to run it off the Magellan GPS as that's all, from my experience, Discover Aus will recognise. The issue then becomes will Oxiexplorer recognise the GPS as
well. My gut feeling is that its quite likely provided the required comms format can be activated!! I'll try it over the weekend...let me know if you have any succes in the meantime. Cheers

Hi Eric I should have asked earlier but is there something specific you are trying to achieve by this, eg waypoint, track log sharing. If that's the case then I have worked my way through this previously and happy to share info. Cheers

Hi Eric
I suggest you try logging your trip/waypoints on Discover Aus. Down load your files to the laptop in Discover Aus. Switch to OxiExplorer and then download again from the Magellan into OxiExplorer. The common link between the two systems is your GPS unit and if you use this as the medium to share you can swap files between the two, eg. if you already have old files in Discover Oz format but want them in oxiExplorer just down load them into your GPS and suck back into OxiExplorer. Works a treat on my Magellan Colour. Cheers

That's exactly what happens Eric however it can be done with a little program that allows multiple programs to share the same com port. For the life of me I can't remember what the programs is called, I was looking at the website a month or so ago but didn't bookmark it. I'll try and track it down and get back to you.

Well that didn't take long, found it already.
http://franson.biz/gpsgate/
GpsGate lets you share one GPS between several applications. GpsGate can create any number of virtual serial ports which most NMEA enabled GPS applications can connect to.

Mad Dogs got the answer, you need to split the port access, only can be done with the specific program that he has mentioned and now can't find.
The pressure is on Ray, get your finger out and find it for us. LOL

I found it
John the site is above.
All is
well here Leigh, flat out at work at the moment.
Well I managed to give the engine a clean but It still need some work to remove the muddy stains. The rain has helped with the body but I'll have to hit the car wash to clean underneath but I'm thinking it's hardly worth it as I might hit the dirt again this weekend.

Hi Guys
Spent a bloody age with the Gernie under the truck getting the mud out.
The carpet dried OK and only required a vacuum to bring it up like new.
The winch problem cost me $150 to fix, turns out that the earth wire/connection behind the brush carrier had corroded and was causing the intermittent contact problem.
Leigh as for OE Have loaded it but have not had enough time to learn to drive it as yet.
Leaving tomorrow morning for 5 days up the Avon and McAllister river area with the Toyota Landcrusier Club will wash the underside of the truck once or twice in the drink up there should be fun.
Will have to organize a trip up there with you guys soon great place.

February, Jeez all the water will have disappeared out of them Wombat Bog holes by then.
How are we going to get it dirty, Hmmmm I think a High Country weekend will have to be the way to go.
As for this weekend being busy in the H/C I think
Robe will be worse. LOL at least there is more room in the H/C.
We have 8 trucks in my group this weekend.
Leigh what option's you getting fitted from scratch ?

A high Country trip sounds good
John, can't stand that bloodly hot summer weather when camping though.
Guys, I've just tried gpsgate and it's working fine with a magellan 320, discoveraus v1.00b and oziexplorer 3.95.4d. I set the gps into simulate mode and both programs are tracking
well at the same time. Took about 1 minute to have it all running :) I'll have a play for a week, if I consider it worthwhile I may just purchase it.
It will be a long wait for the troopy Leigh but worth it in the end eh. Hopefully you'll be able to hitch a ride with
John again to get your fix.

Hi Ray. I have only just this minute finished downloading the trial version. Glad to hear you got it working. I'll try this weekend. Yeah..I'm looking forward to placing the order next week. I have one more quote to arrive on Monday then its off to place the order. Have got separate quotes for accessories and so far quite happy with the price offered on a bundled package. Cannot wait to get back on the track again and really looking forward to the Canning in May 2005. I think I'm just about organised to go except no wheels!! Might go and wring
the neck of my V8 Commodore over the weekend for a rush?? Cheers for now...must get back to work!!

Eric, Make sure the GPS, Oziexplorer, discoveraus and gpsgate are all set at the same baud rate, I used 9600. Configure gpsgate for the physical port that the gps is connected to, in my case it was com1. Setup two virtual ports in gpsgate I told it com 5 and com 6. Configure oziexplorer to use com 5 and fire it up, you should have connectivity.
Fire up discoveraus...can't remember if I had to configure anything there or if it found it automatically (I'm at work now so cant try it) but try connecting to the gps if it ask any questions tell it com 6 and 9600bd

i have tried running both and cant do it, the problem i have is the com ports on the computer can only be accesed by one program at a time, i think if you want to run them both at the same time you need two gps units connected to different com ports

Eric,
You should also be able to split the serial line at your 9 pin connectors (half way between the GPS and the laptop) and send one each to both your USB ports (ie comm 5 and 6). You will need a splitter and a second serial to USB converter. Use Discover Oz on Comm 5 and Exploroz on Comm 6. If you get confilicts, then you want to use only pins 2 and 5 so that you are only getting one way comms from the GPS to the laptop and not back again (usually on pin 3)
If you ask Mad Dog nicely enough he might make one up for you ... hehe
Have a good trip. i got called back to
Perth early and fly out Monday.
Wazza.

Thanks Wazza just what I need, fiddling around wiring up rs232 cables is not my idea of fun. Had enough of that when I was into packet radio and gprs. Trouble these days is that my eyes are half shot, no not blood shot, and I can't see the bloodly wires. Eric should be able to get gpsgate working ok and then be able to run any mumber of applications.
Enjoy ya break before work next week....cya
