I was talking with that mate again (who can't use a computer) about fond memories of the best vehicles we ever owned. There were some misty eyed moments but luckily the kleenex came out before there was a puch up for being a sissy!

bEST vEHICLE EH!
err..most reliable would have to be my old VL Commodore with the straight 6 nissan engine, purchased at 35,000k and sold it at 380,000k without any problems during its time with me was still running
well and using no oil between changes when sold.
err...most fun would have to be the old billy cart the old man made for me, boy did we have some fun with that clunker.

Wow but be careful with the cruising, you don't want to clock up too many
miles in a hurry.

We were just talking about this at work last night.
For me it was the LH Torana. 4.2l 4speed. It had vinyl seats an AM only radio,(i did upgrade that) no carpets no air con and wipers that kept failing, but only when it rained.
It had more go than was decent, it was
bright orange and LOUD. I was 20 when I bought it and I spent a lot of time standing at the side of the road talking with uniformed men.
But it was sooooo much funnnnnnnnnnnn!!!
Then there was my GQ 4.2l Diesel ex ARB company car. That was fun too but I did not get to talk to the uniformed men as much. A good thing really, I never did like those unifromed men.

best machine....from my youth it would be either my rd250-350 or my gs1000 st both of them took me right around australia in an out of more place that any 4WD of
mine have taken me.
The old gs1000 took me on the old telecom road from
kandos to
Putty.....not bad for a 200 kg road bike. The RD 250-350 was lighter ut the gs100 was comfort compare to the Yammie.
car or 4wd.......nissan 300zx z32 would be the next favorite car......

1972 Peugeot 504
It dragged me and the family around for more years than I care to remember.
It was a great cruising car which ate distance like it was nothing, pulled dive boats out of the sea when we were still in dripping wet suits, and had yacht tenders hefted wet onto its roofracks.
When it was old and
grey and I used it as a work vehicle full of
tools and crud and it went until it was totally stuffed.
Could be a bit idiosyncratic though, but that was what gave it character!

I don't know about the best, but my most interesting was a 1958 V W bug.
We cut off the rear half & tossed it. Made a tray & cage for the rear, put in a flat 1800, jacked up all the
suspension, fitted weapon white sunraysias & horny tyres, and painted it metal-flake brown.
Certainly looked the part, and as a resident of the souther
Flinders Ranges, there was never a shortage of spots to try the beast out.
Cheers
Wolfie

Tram-Am 4.9 V8 turbo......just another mid-life crisis toy. Haded just 18 months,
very expensif to run, but it was fun. Of course, it was black, with the golden eagle
on the bonnet. I dont realy miss the toy, but the good time i had with it.

Best ENJOYMENT: both my GQ's
Best GRUNT: in a street registered car, Dad's XY GTHO Phase 111. Cant believe he bought that thing to go to the markets every morning to get the fruit and vegies for our fruit
shop in Clovelly, I still cant work out how he managed to fit 2 100lb sacks of potatoes in the boot.
YEP.....if only he knew then what we all know now ay :-(

Hmmm,
Most fun: The VB commodore with that 253 that refused to blow up. First car, so you have to have fun in them!
Fastest, the ZX-9 with pipe and dynokit - good for 290km/h
Turned most heads: The Triumph Daytona 955
Most fun to cruise in: The old EH
Most fun in my old age now: Hats off to the 80 series.

My best all rounder re value and performance was the new 1969 Renault 10 - extremely comfortable seats, Michelins all round, good price, very frugal (38 MPG around town), never missed a beat, but brakes quite ordinary and nowhere to put a radio. Great trade-in on the next one (which was a 12, and a disappointment ! ).
Only thing wrong with Renaults is that they are French - arrogant b....ds. If they made them now though, they would sell ! Especially the R8 Gordini.

1966 Mustang - number plates 66 PONY!
Auto, Silver, black interior.
Low enough so you could just put a coke can standing up under it. (not good for speed humps or steep drives!)
302 windsor which flew with the C4.
A real head turner.
Sadly had to sell because I was made redundant at work.
Started my own biz with proceeds. Still wish I had it though.

I never had a 504 but over the years I've heard many positive comments about their seats, ride and durability. A driver's car I'm told. There was a big wagon that seated 7.
What are the later ones like?

I drove a brand new 406 sedan with the common-rail diesel engine a couple of years ago. It was very smooth and quiet, with the same performance as a petrol vehicle. Fuel consumption was still in the high 40's mpg. In the end, we didn't buy it because we moved to
Oodnadatta and needed a 4WD instead. But if we evermove back to the bitumen (not likely LOL) I think I'd get one.
Cheers
