Gday,
Just after some clarification...
Everywhere on the net that has information available, suggests that the minor service interval is 10000km and major service interval is 40000km, however the servfice book has the 5000km and 10000km chits in there.
Can anyone clarify what the correct service intervals are for their Toyota 79 Series RV Cab Chassis is?? (Im assuming that the troopie will be the the same)
Many Thanks

Quoting from the Warranty & Service book, the 5,000 Km service for normal operating conditions consists of lubricating the steering knuckle, drag link and steering linkage.

The dealer advised me when I bought the vehicle (new) not to pay them to do it if I was capable of using a grease gun.

Well my Toyota troopies with the 1HZ all had 5k service intervals, oil & filter, grease tailshafts and steering, check fuel and air fliters and as I had a CAV fuel filter upstream of the standard fuel filter I always changed that at 5k too.
The Toyota fuel filter I only changed twice at 100k intervals as the CAV was doing all the work.
Transmission and diff oils checked at 10k intervals and changed at 20k intervals.
Oil is far cheaper than engines and I'd be changing it at 5k myself as while you may get away with it the engine is basically the same since 1990, oils haven't improved that much.

I no longer have the documentation at hand but I remember reading a similar post on another site.
It appears that Toyota shortened the service intervals on the 75 after introduction and shortened them again when the 79 series come out.
I think the major service interval is now 30000klm possibly because of the different gearbox and diffs.

People been talking apples and oranges here.

The HDJ79 (factory turbo diesel) can be serviced at 10k intervals because it is direct injection and EFI, so doesn't generate as much soot.

The HZJ 79 (normally aspirated diesel) used to be 5k services because it is indirect injection and generates more soot.

Toyota tell me that both engines are now 10k intervals, unless being operated under dusty or difficult conditions as specified inthe book.
