V8 - sorry if I didn't get back on any prior occasion.
I've now done 45K on my MTR's with (unfortunately) a lot of that having been on bitumen - purely through geographic reasons.
They handle far, far greater on black stuff than I ever imagined, are even better on gravel and just love
the rock climbing. Haven't been in any real significant mud yet to test. They work a bit harder on
soft beach sand than my A/T's but no drama's at all after releasing pressure and can drop that much lower than A/T's anyway - just need to be able to pump 'em up again is all.
I've got no boot surround around my gearbox (over 12 months now) and can't say as I notice the road noise much. I believe them to be quieter than other MT's but don't quote me on that. This is a pet hate subject of
mine though as I really can't see as how tyre noise can be a problem. I don't drive with windows down anyway as air con runs 24/7 and stereo is pumping at all times except when the Fun Nazi is in the car (and who can hear tyre noises then right !). To each his own and I'm not being judgemental - this is just my opinion. A bonus to road noise for me is the fact that it appears to alert the wildlife to some extent but no scientific evidence, just ahunch of
mine.
After 45K I have at least 11-12mm of tread left and am on target to achieve 100 000 km's from this set of tyres (set of 5 rotated every 10K). Considering some of the
places I visit as
well as the large amount of bitumen & gravel driving,
well I couldn't be happier. The added security of 16mm sidewalls (which I have tested and apparently am the first in the district to have penetrated - much to the amazement of tyre rep) as opposed to 12mm of other tyres, combined with the all round versatility of this tyre makes it an easy decision to replace them with the same again when it comes time to do so. I just wish they came in a bigger size than 285's.
If you'd like photos of worn tyres or anything then let me know. Hope this helps
