Does it take a longer than usual time to start in the morning? Fuel injectors leaking. Time for new injectors and seals. Make sure you get the genuine toyota o-ring seals for the injector fuel rail.

Not familiar with Prado's particularly, could be a number of things, O2 sensor, airflow sensor, cold start injector, most beyond the home mechanic, best to take it to someone with the correct test gear.
If you can smell fuel it is running rich which will mean it is possibly in limp mode and overfuelling which will kill the cat converter pretty quickly.
No check engine lights on?

I have a GXL V6 with similar problems.

Took it to Toyota to have computer diagnosis done - suspect throttle position sensor, air flow sensor, air temp. sensor. The tech. said the throttle position sensor can cause the other 2 errors to log.

They still need to determine if it's the sensor(s), or the wiring. No errors showed on the panel ever.

Throttle sensor about $102.00, the others don't know.

Will let you know when I book it in at Toyota.

I did ring 4WD & auto elecs to see if they could do it - "no mate, need Toyotas analysis gear".

Thank you for the help. I did check for fuel leaks none are evident and i suspect it's going to be one of the sensors. thursday going in for the ball joint dust boot fit recalled by toyota some time ago and will try to get them to check it out but up here toyota have a very hmm..... bad reputation so scared even to take it in for the recall.
Davo eager to hear about the results from toyota. let me know pls
cheers
