Hello peeps...I just put some BF Goodridge 315R7516 Mud Terrians on the Beast (100 series Crusier) as where approching the wet season up north and ill be heading off there shortly again... and the speedo is out by around 10k's , possibly more...I need to know if anyone in WA can direct me to someone that can calibrate the speedo...
Well that's what i think needs to be done..Not to sure....So i'm hoping a few people may have been in the same situation and they might be able to point me in the right direction....
Looking forward to your remarks...
Regards
Phil

Many speedometers seem to over-read by anywhere from 5 to 10% so before having it recalibrated (is that possible without major changes?) try and borrow a GPS and do some tests.

G'day Phil,
anyspeedo specialist should be able to do the work. I had a gearbox made up for the Rocky I had a few yeas ago with 31's on it. It cost me about $60 and was simple to remove when I put the stockies back on. All up the contraption was about half the size of a smoke packet.

You should move to
melbourne Phil, then I know of only 2 here so they are probably few and far between. Have you tried a gearbox reco place, they may have an idea of who can do it.

Hi Phil
This website is a great tyre size calaulator. Gives circumferences, speedo error etc.
At least you'll know how far out it really is.

The problem with that website is that, although it correctly calculates the difference in speedo readings with different size tyres, it assumes that the speedo is correct/accurate with the stock tyre fitted.
This is not necessarily the case.
For example a GU, with the stock tyres fitted (265/70/16 from memory), actually travels about 7% slower than what the speedo says. If the speedo reads 100, you are actually travelling about 93 khph (measured with GPS which is accurate to around 0.01 kph) Fit 285/75 /16 or 305/70/16 tyres and the speedo will now read almost the same as the actual speed.
This also causes fuel consumption figures to be inaccurate......with standard tyres you will think you are getting 7% better fuel consumption than you actually are because the speedo gives a higher km travelled reading than actual.

Don't forget the old ways if you can't access a GPS. A stopwatch and a straight road, the distance of which you can establish from a map - you must have a few of those in WA? :)

Try calling a diff specialist. When lads want a bit more accelleration out of their car they often go for a lower ratio diff. Any diff specialist will be able to put you in contact with someone who corrects the speedo.
Went through this exercise with my son's car.
Cheers,
Jim.

Simplest/cheapest way is to either:
A) Use a GPS to display your "correct" speed.
or alternately
B) Use a mate who has a GPS or just an accurate speedo
Either way, drive at various speeds (When using "B", maintain radio contact and get your mate to call the speeds) and label your speedo at the various "common" points
I.E
40
50
60
70
80
100
110
etc.............
You could for instance use arrow decals or dymo labels etc.....

Hey Phil how does the cruiser go with the new tyres. Does it handle the increase in tyre size without losing too much power. What type of cruiser is it a petrol/diesel, auto/manual?

Hi Phil,
Can't send you a message as it's a 'Members only' function.
I could help you out with a GPS if you like. I'm in the Northern Suburbs
I can't send you a message, so if it's convenient you would like to email me at gonebush@bigpond.net.au
regards
:)
