Well it is in at Nissan to get diagnosed. I have put a wav file of the sound on my website
if anyone is interested on how bad it is. The car is still driveable but Nissan have said it doesn't look like an injector so will have to start striping it down.

I'll keep you up to date with what was found and whether I will be doing a conversion or not if cost to repair is too high.

Regards
David

That sound horrible!

I am guessing that it is either a gudgon pin or the big end bearing on one of the pistons. Either way not cheap to get to.

David, sounds horrible, definatly a bottom end sound by the frequency of it.
Have you eliminated things like the clutch, (something loose hitting the bell housing) or the bendix on the starter on returning fully and hitting the fly wheel/ring gear ? All things I have come across in the workshop.
Best of luck,
Will

David,
Well that didn't sound to good at all, just out of interest did it start suddenly or did it start gradually? Sounds like some major therapy is about to happen, good luck with that little lot.
Keep the shiny side up

It happend gradually. Driving from Caboolture to Maroochydore (Bruce h'way, 30 km into trip, straight stretch doing 115km/hr) when I heard a slight knock. This got louder over then next couple of km's. I stopped and it was doing it at idle (worse than the the noise in the recording I did). Limped to a mates house where I left it. When its cold you can hardly hear the knock at idle but as soon as you rev it... well you heard it.

Yeah I agree, not a sound I wanna hear from my truck,

Sounds to as you explained it, the oil port to the big end bearing is blocked, when cold starting the noise is limited as sufficient oil is there as it warms up its not getting the lubricant required.

I do hope im wrong
