Hello gurus

The dash and tail lights on my 80 series have stopped working. They are both fed via the key switch, a tail light relay and the tail light fuse.

There's no power at the fuse block, which makes me suspect the tail light relay, or somwthing further up stream. Anyway ... the relay is the obvious place to start.

I've found the relay under the right hand kick panel, but do you think I can get the sucker out of its socket? No way. It's certainly not easy, especially as I have #10 hands, am working in a #8 space at full stretch and doing things mainly by feel. (Sound familiar???)

The relay is in a small round metal can, a little larger than a sewing thimble. Does anyone know whether these have a detent that has to be depressed to extract the relay from the base? Anyone have a picture of a relay they can e-mail me? Anyone had similar experience?

Thanks in advance

Open the bonet and have a look at the horn relay. Your tail relay is the same looking unit. You don't need to depress anything to get it out.

Thanks for the suggestion, Goran. I did as you suggested and got the relay out. Part of the problem was that the relay contacts have overheated and distorted the base.

A bit of judicious cleaning and everything is working again.

Thanks again for the reply

Dirty contacts are the reason for heat distortion.
