I was thinking of getting a Lokka diff lock for the front of my GU patrol then swap diff centres using the Lokka in the rear and the limited slip in the front. I have been through the pros and cons but would like to know ...

Has anyone done this before?

How effective is it? and

What are the problems with this setup?

GU_DX
The front and rear diffs are not interchangable, the lockrite is made to suit the axle splines so you can not swap the unit over. Eric.

You cant swap diff's , but also you dont want a Lokka in the front , I run one in the rear of my Cruiser and love it , Your GU already has a very good LSD set up , why not spend the money for a air locker up front . The worst thing for me is to have a locker in the front that I cant deactivate . Drive a locked up car in mud and try stear it . Good luck lol

I have a lockrite in the front of the GU and steering is a bit heavier but it still steers, mind you an airlocker in the front is a whole different ballgame

Hmmm? I've got no probs with the Lokka in the front of my GQ. Steering is a bit heavier and the turning circle is a bit bigger, but as far as value for money I think they are great. You will need to change your hubs to manual ones though.
Cheers

You say your turning circle in your GQ is a bit bigger now. You must need two football fields to turn in instead of the normal one field a GQ.
But hey, wouldnt swap my GQ for anything.

Don't be confused, the 4WD Systems Diff Lokka provides proportional drive all the time the hubs are locked in the front. I''ve got one on the front of my cruiser and the 'pulling' capability that provides is very reassuring. I left the rear as the standard LSD. This combo works real fine.

Goodluck tho

Trust me, unless you're deaf, you don't want a lokka in the rear.
I have one in each end of my 4runner and the rear lokka drives me nuts around town.
Sounds much like an old subaru with a buggered cv or two.
Also, as little as 10% power on, or of, is enough to make it stay locked.
You only need to be turning at a T junction with a slight uphill and the rear tyres will scrub all through the turn, or untill you back the power off to grab the next gear. At car park speeds it cams in and out as you turn to enter a parking space.
Don't be put off, just be prepared, you get what you pay for, and the lokka is great value for money, I got both of mine landed at the dore for $1100, fitted them myself in one day. The quote for an air locker, fitted was just under $2000, and thats just the rear
In the bush, I cant fault them, the places you cant go with twin lokkers ain't worth going. The front lokka is noticable, but at least it will unlock when turning without you having to think about it .(As long as you lift your foot for a second).
In hind sight, I would bite the bullet and buy an air locker for the rear, but, in my oppinion, the "lokka" is fine in the front.
Oh, does any one know of a second hand air locker for sale to suit an diesel 4runner rear diff ?
regards, nomad.

Thankx everyone for the input. The air locker in the front would be my preffered option but the money is hard to find. At about $750 Vs $1500 the Lokka lock right wil win and stay in the front.

My Patrol is a GU DX with manual locking hubs so if the going gets to slippery I can unlock one side and still have three wheels pulling.
