You're right. I just checked the Nissan website and the utes and DX wagons have manual hubs.

Perhaps the wreckers may sell you the parts from a wrecked wagon? Don't know how much it would be though or how many parts are different. Personally I lock my manual hubs in at the beginning of a trip and unlock them when I am sure I won't need them again.

I like the Patrol or F250 option though of having Auto or Locked.

G'day Gareth,
I've changed my auto hubs over to AVM manual hubs. I've kept the auto's in case anything every goes wrong with the AVM's......but I have no intention of ever fitting them back on. They are in perfect working order. I took them off because they prevent the vehicle from being driven in low range 2 wheel drive. I know that's not something we want to do frequently, but to me it's a pain in the arze that you can't do it with auto hubs.
The vehicle is a 2000 GU 4.2T/D and I'd be willing to part with them as a swap for your manual ones (so I still have a back up set) if you agree to pay all postage costs.
See what you think.

Gareth,

If you're lazy like me, when I had a GQ with manual hubs I simply locked the hubs in at some stage before going off road and left them there for the duration of the trip. The idea of constantly engaging and disengaging is a waste of time. It won't do any harm to leave them locked in. All it is doing is turning the diff over, keeps it lubricated.

I often left them locked for days after a trip because I forgot to unlock them. There is some suggestion that it increases fuel consumption, but seriously, when you're pushing around a 2.5 tonne vehicle, I hardly think turning a diff over will have a significant impact. Surely not as much as the cost of fitting auto hubs.

Just my thoughts,

Cheers,

Jim.
