Gday everyone,
Had a great cup weekend away in the
dargo highplains staying at
talbotville
with a group of 6 other parties.
Made the most of the weekend by doing alot of sight seeing and four wheeling.
The only great dissapointment that i had was discovering someone had gone to the trouble of stealing the tow hitch from my rig.
I think that this happened when two other groups and myself were hiking out
to the chimney at the jolly sailer from grant and only noticed back at
camp that
evening that it was gone.
I was devastated to think that someone who had a 4wd and the same interests as ourselves would turn on one of there own and steal.
Luckily i did not have a trailer up the at the time but the other two in my party did.
What if theirs was taken?.
I have never had a padlock on it thinking why would someone take it out in the bush. Maybe in town.
Do i have to think differently now?
Most peple are great that you come across and i am most willing to help if needed
and i'm sure they would do the same.
Come on lets think about what we are doing.
dissappoined

Very sad indeed but its the way things are.
No matter what or where we are, there is always someone who wnats what is not theirs.
I have the key lock type on
mine. I also carry a spare incase. Also some advice for those who unhook trailers and drive off exploring.... I usually take the pin out of my treg and store it in the back of car and in its place i use a lockable pin through the swivel incase someone tries to take the trailer too.
Always think ahead, you never know where these bastards will be next.

Are you sure it was pinched, I've got three in the shed that I've found in the middle of the track at different times over the years.
The best one was near Dalhousie, found
the neck and ball from a Jackaroo (had a plate on it with vehicle model and max weights), ten feet away was a suitable high tensile bolt and a few feet further on the nylock nut for said bolt.
Asked every Jackaroo I came across if they had lost it but all said no, even the bloke who said '
mine can never fall out it has a high tensile bolt with a nylock nut through it'
He was bleep tered when I handed it to him.
I've also been with a group that had one come out with trailer attached, we found the pin and the broken spring clip that was supposed to keep it in place.

How many people know that a Nyloc nut should only be used once?

We were camped downstream from
Talbotville about a 1/2 km from the
river crossing. Sorry to hear about thefts of any kind and it wont get any better. We saw a 4.2 GU with trouble getting going parked on the track when we left on Tuesday morning. Were you in that group?
cheers

mav,
very similar thing happened to my brother in-law about 3 weeks ago.
I consoled him with a story of a mate who went fishing in a remote location about 6 years ago. Came back to the ramp in the evening only to find his boat trailer missing. Car was still there, just no trailer. What can you do on your own, with a boat, a 4WD, but no trailer.
Of course you have to leave the boat there and drive into the nearest town, looking for someone who is kind enough to drop their boat on the ground to let you borrow their trailer to go and get your boat. Not so easy to do at night.
But he succeeded and surprisingly his boat was still there when he went back to get it.
Moral of story, double lock everything.
It's a sad world.
Andrew
