Hello All
Couple of weeks ago I posted a note about taking the duel cab Bravo To Fraser. Just wanted to thank everyone that replied and let you know the trip went without a hitch. I "tested" the car the weekend before with a trip to Freshwater near
Rainbow Beach. Drove the freshwater track with the intention of returning via
the Beach, however the tide was not kind so had to return via Freshwater track again. To cut a long story short came across some "drama" on the return trip via the track (long uphill section plenty of really soft sand) The casualities were:
2 turbo diesel Patrol utes
1 duel cab Diesel Hilux
1 new Nissan Nirvana
1 Suzuki Serriara
All gave it a go then turned back to wait for the tide. (with a back log of about 12 vehicles by this time)
After watching all the this thought I had no chance. Most of the vehicles were decked out with all the mod cons. Anyhow decided to give it a go. Blow and behold UP SHE WENT reving at 4 g's in low range 2nd and made it...... Bit of bouncing around but didn't look like stopping. Not bad for a totally stock unit, cheese cutter tyres and all. Hence to say this gave me alot of confidence for Fraser, spent six days there and loved it, once again the Bravo went like a charm and took everything in its stride that was thrown at it (including avoiding the Backpacker Troopies)
Thanks for all the advice re: tyre pressure and watching the tides etc..... I think that I am getting addicted to this 4wd thing. Might even look at some mods for the Bravo !!!!!
Thanks again.........

Hi Sully, glade to had a good time. We just got back yesterday from a week up on Fraser. Had the best weather and also had fun dodging the Backpacker Troopies.
Fuel prices were a shock at 1.48 to 1.51 p/l.

Yep it was a bit rich
But try 1.70 per/l at Kingfisher bay !!!!!!!! for diesel. I Had to top up there but NEVER again !!!
It was only 1.40 at the top of the island..... makes you wonder how that make up the prices....
Cheers...

When I went to Fraser for a week in my Rodeo I took over a full
tank of 63 litres and 160 litres in jerry cans. We stayed at Kingfisher so I filled up every morning and kept the rest in our laundry. Don't know what the cleaners thought.
I brought home about 60 litres.
Easy to fit it in when we didn't need any
camping gear.

Short answer - Yes!
I know thats a generalisation but they're generally driven by people with nil experience (they've watched a 20 minute video) and the vehicles are loaded to the max. The hire companies dont encourage them to let the tyres down due to increased rollover risk. At least there's plenty of people inside to push.
My main gripe is their general lack of bush etiquete, eg setting up
camp right next to other groups and making lots of noise till late, beeping horns unneccisarily, - just being LOUD - (Poms seem to be the worst for being loud). washing dishes in
toilet basins etc etc.
Anyway, they're everywhere on Fraser so you have to get used to them -you'll still enjoy yourself.
Disclaimer: I'm sure there are lots of backpackers in troopies who are very
well mannered and not all the Poms are rude and loud.
