At
Robe I was mightlily impressed with Andew and Jen's Versa Lite and John R's Bushlites.
After searching the archives here and elsewhere I found various information about how good they were. Also got feedback on the Arlec which looks very similar to the Bushlite.
Versalite and Bushlite both $90, Arlec $50 at Super Cheap. I bought the Arlec with a money back guarantee and tried it tonight. The bloody thing burnt my eyeballs like the Versalite and the Bushlite. Made my $20 Projecta job from K Mart look like a dull candle.
Any opinions?
Cheers,
Jim.

Jimbo, not really sure what you are after but whats wrong with a 12v dual fluro.....piranah or primus or arb.at about $60 and less than 1amp draw with the light of a 75w globe u can't go wrong.

Stu,
The Versalite or ARB is apparently the same as the Pirahna, (I'm told they are all made in the same factory).
The ARB was $80, the Versa $90, Bushlite $90, all draw 1 amp as does the Arlec ($50) which seems to put out the same amount of light.
You're spot on, they put out a lot of light for 1 amp.
Cheers,
Jim

Hey Jimbo, people around here always say "you get what you pay for"
If that's true then the bushlite is the best eh!

Further to that the bushlites at Rays must have been better than the supercheap ones because they were dearer...looked the same though.

Not on those products particularly but I use a Jaycar 12V, 20W low energy globe (SL2852) with the appropriate SES lamp holder mounted in a Reject
Shop plastic, fully sealed kitchen jar - cable and bolt holes sealed with silicon sealant. Gives a good light for minimal power draw and is fully protected both in use and transit. Holds up for ever off the vehicle battery or about 5 hours from a 7Ah SLA.

Good trick is to get the light up high, we mount ours on a wog pole on the rear door
at about 3.6 metres , never gets in your eyes & lights up about 3
camp sites.

I've got a wog pole courtesy of Eric's advice for sand driving.
Sounds like a good option, thanks Bernie.
Cheers,
Jim.

Jack,
A wog pole is a 6 or 7 metre telescopic rod used to catch squid off piers, and is also used by 4wd's to put a flag on top of when driving in dunes.
According to Eric (who is of Greek
heritage) they are so named "because us wogs use them to catch squid'.
Cheers,
Jim.

We have has a Versa for about 15 years. Still going strong with original tubes. Threw away gas lights and cheaper fluoros and have never regretted it. Probably our best ever
camping purchase.
