anyone done any of the tours from Russell Guest Australian 4wd Adventure Safaris? Professionalism, value for money, safety. Looking at doing one of their tours and would like to get some "impartial" and "warts and all" comments. They seem to be the only one that provides catered tours.
thanks heaps.

I've signed up for the May 2005 tour. By all accounts from other members here, they are good.

We 'won' a Nissan Patrol for a month from Nissan Australian in a raffle and being novices at 4wding we did a trip with Guests in April 2000. Had a wow of a time and learnt a lot and the food was great. Was just chatting on MSN tonight with one of the other participants and reliving our memories of four years ago. We haven't seen her since the trip but remain in contact.
There was a guy there called Paul who was a great
cook - Charles a great teacher and John always smiling for the camera - hahaha - happy memories

Guest's have been advertising a trip next year with Doug Stoneham as guest traveler.
Doug has done these trips before, but was not consulted about this trip yet he is advertised as going.
Doug is in fact in hospital and is very very ill and would not be traveling in any respect.
And yet they are still advertising him as an attraction.
A bit misleading in my book.
Doug Stoneham was Len Beadells Bulldozer and Grader driver and is the last surviving member of the Gunbarrel Hwy Construction Party.

Why not pop them an email or phone call to let them know?

Froilan,
Russell Guest has been running Tag-a-long tours for years. He tends to do some of the bigger trips but not a lot of trips during the year. They have a very good workshop where they will want to have a look at your vehicle before you go on one of there trips.
Have not heard any thing that might put you off going on one of there trips.

I have been on 2 tours with them both were 10 day High Country tours (in 2000 and 2003). I can recommend them without hesitating.
But to answer your specific questions:
Professionalisim - hard to measure, but our tours ran like clockwork. If a change had to be made because of prevailing conditions, the tour leaders formulated and implemented strategies in a professional manner. On the administrative side of things - we didn't ever have any little 'hiccups'.
Value for money - we was certainly happy with our "bang for buck". The catering aspect is absolutely marvellous. The tour leaders work "like drovers dogs" to ensure that everyone is
well fed and having fun.
Safety - our group's driving skills were taken into account when selecting tracks to take when conditions became slippery. No-one was pressured into doing something they didn't want to do. The treks were challenging nonetheless.
I cannot draw on a single negative experience from my dealings with these people to satisfy your "warts n all" plea.
I'm not associated with them in any way except for being a repeat customer.
Cheers
Stephen J.

I would rather go with Russel Coight. You get to stop at pubs, get great commentary and you can
cook your own food. No Road Kill meals here.
