Has anyone had any experience with Black Rat recovery gear, mainly their hand winch.I am able to get a substantial discount just wondering if it is better to maybe
buy some of the better known brand gear. -Steve L.

I dont know if its still the same, but the NSW Nissan club when I did my training with them 3ish yrs ago, Ian was warning people away from them, due to some recoveries where the gear had failed dangerously...
could be different now

Hey Steve,
Their snatch straps, shackles etc are very good and have done pretty
well in various tests that have been run over recent years. They also are pretty
well priced. I have heard that their hand winch gear maybe not as strong and durable as it should be.
Cheers

I have one and used it for the first time on the Oct Long Weekend.
Winched the truck and Camper 38 mt till I got it onto firm gound.
I had mad the mistake of driving over my own track on very wet granit soil and dropped all 6
wheels to the axles.
Took 1.5 hrs to get it out but it all worked
well. Combined weight of truck & camper 3300kg + all that mud.

I have a black rat (trifor copy) and it has worked fine for me.
If buying another, I will pay the little bit more and go for the original Tirfor, as they are much better looking in their build quality
