Hi again.
Mate at work with 2002 TD Navara - same engine as GU II patrol but not intercooled. He is a bit confused about which oil to use. Without going into exactly why he is confused, what oils are people using in these vehicles? Told by Penzoil rep that that motor had oil flow problems. Is this the same problem experienced by many disgruntled GUII owners, leading to engine failure, or is the problem not as valid without intercooling?
Been trying to get him on this
forum, maybe a good helpful reply will nudge him!!

I believe a lot of Patrol owners run
Caltex Delo 400 in their GU's. I run it in my Hiliux 3L TD and havent had any problems.
Am sitting in a hotel in
Canberra just wating an advert on the TV for Delo 400.
I buy it by the 20L drum in
Brisbane for $89 from SEQ fuels.
Apart from that Shell Rimula X seems to be to go.
Heaps of posts on the oil debate, so have fun searching!
Cheers,
Glenn.

Well I run Delo 400in my 3.0l. Ask me in 200,000k's if I still think its good;-) I'm happy with my choice. It's a good quality oil and I also buy it in 20l drums. Do a search and you will find some good reading material

I run my ZD30 Patrol on Shell Rimula X. Shell Helex Diesel Oil is also suitable. The main thing to watch is the API rating. Nissan specify's API rating CD, CE,CF or CF-4 for my 2000 ZD30. The Nissan manual also tells me to avoid using API CG-4 oils which has been blended to deal with newer low sulpher diesel fuels even though the containers say they say that it can be used to replace the other API grades.
All this has something to so with the sulpher content of fuels - oils with the CD, CE and CF ratings are blended to deal with higher content sulpher fuels while the CG-4 oils are for Euro spec and US quality diesel fuels. Australia's now has newer and cleaner diesel and I don't know whether Nissan has changed change their recommended oil specs. Personally for peace of mind I would stick with the API rating and Grade that Nissan specifys for your firends vehicle in the manual. What brand he uses is entirely up to him
When I first got my vehicle I started using Penzoil Diesel Oil GH-4 because I could get it in 10ltr containers. On the container it said that it could be used to replace the other API ratings. NOT TRUE may be overseas but not here. I immediately drained, flushed and started using Rimula X.
No idea whether ZD30 Navara's have had similar problems with this motor to some Patrols. Stick with the specified oil Grades and service periods and Nissan has been good with making good with repairs and replacement motors, even outside warranty.
