I have been reading about the new hilux due for release in March 2005.

What’s the go when a new model is released. Is that the time to buy one of the old models at a good price because they are trying to get rid of them. Is it normally around the same price as a current model. Also would non genuine accessories take a while to catch up with a new model forcing you to buy genuine stuff at inflated prices. I’m thinking things like bull bars, canopies, side steps etc.

Just having a go here so correct me if I'm wrong.

When a new model comes out they will have a runout sale of the old model. So should be a good time to get a deal on the old one.

Non Genuine accessories do take a little bit to catch up. Dependent on the relationship between the manufacturer and the aftermarket company. As for genuine accessories, aren't they just the aftermarket ones with genuine badges on them? Like the genuine Mazda canopy is a TJM one. So depending on when Toyota gives ARB (or whoever) a Hilux to develop gear for it depends on how soon goodies will be available for it.

I know my mates Discovery (current model when first released) didn't have an ARB bar for it and he had to wait a little while.

Your right about the catch up...went into TJM to chase up my basher plate for the GU, production has been put off due to there r&d and eventual production of a OEM bar for the new Nissan Patrol IIII. Event though the new model is already out there, it won't be available for a bit yet!

Chris,

Go and get the Brown Davis one. That's the one I got. I think it's zinc plated? (that gold color) so it wont rust. Just a bit better than the Nissan bit of plastic.

I'd be waiting for the new one to see if it dcomes out with stronger front diff like the Prado and maybe stronger CV's. But like anything you generally dont buy the first of any model until some of the bugs are ironed out but if it's mainly cosmetic I couldn't see a prob. You may need to wait a while for the aftermaarket accessories to come along but I didn't notice ARB taking too long when the new Rodeo came out.
Just my 20c.

I saw those pics yesterday and it more than enough to put me off buying one. I was empted by the new diesel motor and auto box, coils instead of torsion bars but it's too ugly. The Patrol is looking more tempting ever day

Well we can only hope it doesn't look as ugly on the road as it does in those pics.

It seems to have that new chunkier type look similar to the new navara. It might also just be the angles the photos are taken at. My Toyota delaer claims to know nothing about the new model being released or when. Of course he wants me to buy a vehicle now rather than later.
