I need boat insurance for my tinnie. It is a 17 ft with 50 hp on Dunbier trailer all 2001 models. Any reccommendations on good companies and prices. Some offer a discount for what they call "lay up time" or times of year when the boat is not being used.
Any help would be great.

Heya
I use Club Marine. Good service, better price than NRMA for my boat when I joined, and you get a good quality magazine every quarter - which I quite enjoy reading (boat reviews, tips etc).
They also offer the lay-up discount - but I dont bother with this.
Cheers
(I have nothing to do with the company)

Thanks for that. Just did an online quote and it came in at 192.15 comprehensive with 6 month layover period. Not too bad. I will try some others to compare.

Hi Floyd
I have my boat, trailer, motor and gear insured with Club marine. I am sure they have the lay up time for when the boat is not getting used and have always been help full. We are covered anywhere is in Australia. We pay about $260.00 for full year, 14ft tinnie, 30hp, Dunbier trailer. I think we have an excess of $100.
Club Marine
Cheers Mate

floyd,
Club marine is the only company to insure with IMHO we have a 6m ski boat insured with them, they do have the lay up period pricing is good, excess is ok but i would caution with club marine if you get your boat stolen and it has not been secured with an approved wheel clamp they will sting you an extra $1000.00 excess even if the boat is stored in a locked garage. Most likely no interest to you but as part of your policy you get insurance cover for
water skiiers at no extra charge which is good even if you are only towing the kids around on an inflatable.

Floyd,
I have used club marine for many years and this year I changed to whitworths. Their policy is underwritten by cgu. I change not because of price (even though it was 15%ish cheaper) but things like the excess that floyed mentioned, age of people who drove the boat and the associated excesses and cover. Worth a look in my opinion. I will miss the mag though!
