Have any 80 series owners had problems with the clip which attached the mirror to the body snapping. I have been told that this is a common problem and can't be repaired. Is this correct?

I've also been told that you can't purchase these items non-geniune. I have priced geniune replacements at $190 each, I'm thinking I may just live with the fact that the mirror floats around in the wind.Does anyone know if these mirrors can be purchased non-geniune?

Cheers

I had a broken one.
I fixed it by obtaining a small piece of tin and bending it in a U shape to fit around the broken section of the body. I had a hole in the back part of the tin and slipped it over the hook. All they do is sit there as it is held in with the screw at the bottom.
Bugger of a design and usuall only break when heavy handed or knocked.

in a word..yes...stickerflex (the black goo that seals wind screens) holds it in there better than Toyota clips ever did....dont be in a rush to remove it afterwards though...

Hi Mitch

Yes Dozer is spot on. My 80 series had a broken left hand mirror and the local Toyota dealer said that they use silicone where it was broken from the body of the mirror. Unscrewed the bottom screw and used the silicone .............. fixed the wobble .......... that was 3 years ago now, and no problems whatsoever.

Moose,

I've tried 8 or 9 around Perth and a couple of them but still want $165 each for them. Might just glue them in as previous replies have suggested.

Hi Mitch

After I used the silicone, I held the mirror in place in the mirror frame with masking tape to make sure it set properly for about a week. Probably don't need this long but I wanted to make sure it set well.
