I have a first generation 4 runner, and as you know, you can take the canopy off, and it pretty much is like taking the roof of a car that shouldn't have its roof removed. I know you can buy a soft top in america (Can-back) for the 4runner, but it is far too expensive (I'm a student after all). Has anybody out there built a soft top for a 4runner or fj40 or simmilar? I would like to know the best way to build one for summer. Also, i have heard many a story about vinal being a b*% to get on when it is cold, you know, the only time you want it on. What do you think of sunbrella fabrics?

Most motor body trimmers can make you up something, but due to the length abnd the bows required Im sure it would end up expensive anyway.
You might be able to use something off a boat bimini for the bows, you can customise them pretty easily for you rig and then its just a case of the canvas/vinal.
But if you are not concerned about security and just want a sunshade, I would rip out all the rear carpets (anything the
water hurts) and just get a bimini (just a roof tarp) made up that can strap and taught down on the rear rollbar (mandatory if you remove a roof!!)
Matt.
