Hi all
I am looking to put a uhf in my gu patrol st. I have seen the dx model and it looks like a DIN sized uhf will fit under the stereo. I was hoping to remove the standard stereo and fit a Din sized mp3 player plus DIN sized uhf in the space left behind. Can anybody tell me if this is possible or if they have seen it done?
Cheers.

Haven't seen it done but I took one for a drive last week and looked at doing just that. The radio and the little space underneath look very similar to what's in my Navara and they'll fit in their, so I reckon it's a goer. A mate of
mine has a remote head UHF fitted on the instrument cowl and the main unit under the
seat and it look good.

Warthog,
You could do this, the panel behind the radio will have mounts for two units, the other option is to fit a remote head UHF such as the GME 3400, where the remote head sits very nicely under the heater controls and the main unit behind the dash or under a
seat. It has been done lots before so you should be able to get a photo to see what I mean. I have the DX but will be fitting a 3400 under the heater controls with the main unit up behind the steering column, hope this helps

Hi there
I've done exactly as you said. Taken out the original double din sized Nissan CD player/Cassette/Radio combo. Now have in place an Alpine Radio/Cassette/CD controller with a six stacker mounted in where the "second glove box" can go. That way its easy to change CD's on the move (passenger obviously does this)
Underneath I've fitted a GME TX4400. The whole lot uses the original mounts.
If you're not sure, the front panel comes off quite easily once you find the indentations on the sides where a screwdriver will fit. The only thing that then holds it in place is the switch wires (eg antenna height switch).
Only problem I now have is that the antenna is always raised when the radio is on even when playing cassettes or CD's. Can be over come by placing a switch in there somewhere, just havent done it yet.
Best of luck
Wayne

I have fitted a sony and uniden uhf in the space left from the dodgy nissan unit. It's easy as mentioned in the other posts. The antenna connection is a problem though, it is a twin input on the back of the nissan radio and this will not fit other radio's. The remedy is to replace it with a cable extension (autobarn, etc). there is a break point in the standard antenna coax up high near the passenger side kick panel - remove the glove box and it is easier to get to. The auto antenna sould connect up to the new radio so that it goes up and down when required - you just have to know what wire goes where (I read the wiring diagram with the new radio and process of elimination with the nissan wiring loom).
