I'd like some advice as to what others do to secure their Campertrailers.
I'm going up into the high country with 10 other mates for a week and I'll be taking my Jayco Outback Eagle CT. We intend to have a base
camp and do day trips into the surrounding area.
My concern is the scumbag who will seize the opportunity to steal the CT while I'm away.
Apart from the usual tow ball locks etc (which I already have) what else can I do to deter the thieves.
Cheers,
Maddog

Maddog,
The truth of the matter is if they realy want it, they will get it despite what security measures you put in place.
I personally have the treg coupling and I put a heavy duty padlock through the pin whilst it is in the coupling and I also have a heavy duty chain that I put through the
wheels and then around the axle and then padlock it with another heavy duty lock.
If they have bolt cutters and they want to go to the trouble, then I suppose thats what insurance is for, but like you, i don't really want the hassle of loosing it.
All I can do is hope for the best.

If the coupling is a bolt on job just remove it and take it with you, That neans at the very least anyone who staels it will need to make two trips to come back with the right coupling. You could always put it on blocks and take the
wheels with you also.
Also I don't use chain, I have had a lenght of 16mm cable made up with swage eyes on the end used with a very good(large) lock, only oxy or a grinder will get through.
The cable cannot be hack sawed the teeth jamb in the wires and bolt cutters just squash the cable not cut it and the swage is too big for even the largest bolt cutters.

A 3 foot 'master key' will take care of most large locks!

your rite about the cable but it is the padlock that the bolt cutters will cut not the cable
if you have a treg hitch try a talon treg lock they are s/steel & very strong but if someone wants it they will take it

I agree with cruiser, if they really want it they will get it, but unless you post your daily itinerary on a tree, how will they know how long have gone for?
We spend a lot of time in the high country with our CT, a Track Eagle, & we take no precautions whatsoever, even leave the Engel out under the awning. I think if everything is put away and/or locked, it is a fairly strong clue that you will gone for a long period. Better for the
campsite to look like you have just gone to get a bit of firewood or something.

Make sure it's insured for an agreed value.

Hay shaker
i thought i was the only one that just left the
campsite we dont even bother locking our CT because it is just as easy to put your hand in through the canvas to open the door anyway. I also agree that the best protection is good insurance policy and if the
camp looks lived in they may not take the risk.
thats my theroy anyway. Mind you we do not leave anything valuable like cameras and jewelery ect

Thanks for all the good advice. Hopefully with a group of half dozen tents the CT should be pretty safe.
