Hi Gang,
I'm now the proud owner of a '95 troopie. She's a gem. I'II get some pics on the site soon. Best fourby I have ever owned (
well, the first one actually).
I have just changed the engine oil and filter for the first time, but I'm struggling a bit with the fuel filters. Can anyone help out with some info on the correct procedure. I want to change the primary and secondary filters. I'm worried about getting air into the system though. Any help would be appreciated, before I get impatient and screw it up.
Cheers
Pete

dont worry about getting air in the system - you cant avoid it all you do is bleed it by pushing the black button until you feel resistenc and start it giving it time to get the rest of the air out- it doesnt retain air locks but may run rough for a few minutes while any remaining air is expelled. To change the filters it may be easier to remove the entire filter and assembly then remove the filter from the assembly before putting the filter back on and replacing the assembly. with the primary filter the bolt at the bottom needs to be undone to remove the element filter- pay attention to the rubber o rings and where they go. The secondary filter needs the
water trap removed from the bottom. to do this undo the clip that comes off of the wires that leads to it then unscrew it before removing the filter

STEP BY STEP guide to changing fuel filters.
1/ Make sure car is cold beforehand (exhaust not hot)
2/ slide the fuel pipe off the metal tubing(the one that goes from the primary to the secondary at the secondary end only)(secondary = one with sensor)
3/grab yourself a 14mm ring spanner
4/undo the 4 bolts that hold the filters holders on . Taking the filters holders off the car makes it much easier to remove the filters i have found .
5/ undo primary fuel filter bolt with ring spanner. remember what washers go where etc . replace filter and washers etc and put bolt back in .
6/ unclip sensor and then undo secondary canister with small oil filter wrench . when canister is off then get a pair of hand grips and remove the sensor from cannister . fit sensor to new filter cannister and reverse procedure to install . Tighten the filters up by getting a grip of the filter holders with one hand while tightening up with (filter wrench for secondary) and (ring spanner for primary) . This way i have found you cannot overtighten it . When the filters are back on the retainers then put them back into place with bolts . Clip the secondary sensor back in . Dont forget to put fuel line back on . PUmp the S#*T out of the pumping thingy until becomes hard . Start car and check for any leaks . Check out my pictures on troopyoz website for diagram of where washers go .

phew, good info the only thing I will add is after taking off the primary filter holder off it can be difficult to undo the canister bolt due to lack of leverage if it is stiff. simply bolt the filter holder back on upside down so the bolt at the bottom of the canister points up

glenno,
Having been involved with Troopys for many years,Ithink your service schedule is very overdone:
oil and filter every 5000----yes
main fuel filter every 5000---no---possibly every 10000 under severe conditions
otherwise every 20000
pre fuel filter possibly every 5000 under severe conditions otherwise every 10000
air filter only inspected every 5000 but changed at 100000
This is only my oppinion from experience and seems to agree with Toyotos handbook---just trying to save you a dollar with no damage to your car

Thanks to all for the info, especially Glenno. I'II print it out and tape it to the air cleaner. I'm thinking about fitting a turbo mate. Can you give me a step by step guide for this also ?? (LOL).
Cheers
