Greetings
I recently purchased a SWB cruiser that came with a Thomas 3 winch. I was then out testing at a local 4wd
park and had to call on the
services of Thomas.
After everything was set up ready to go i started winching. After around 45 seconds it stopped. When pushiing the trigger i then got a ticking noise(just like the noise a starter motor makes when the battery is shot). I have checked
battery power supply and is good. According to the previous owner he had not used for a long time.
I am unfamilar how these
winches work and where to go for some help.
I this a quick fix or a major?
If not can anyone in the
Gold coast,
Brisbane area reccomend a company that can repair?
Have a good one
Datto
PS: if interested i had to call on the
services of the trusty snatch strap to get me out in th end

Sounds like a dodgey connection in the solenoid in the control box. Pull it apart and give it a clean up. Should be nice and cheap, fingers crossed.

my freinds warn winch failed couple of weeks ago same symptoms as you describe ended up one of the control box soloniods was u/s , there are four soloniods for forward and reverse if they packup then the winch fails, although in this case the winch was working in one direction but not the other..

Most of the 4WD shops should have someone who knows a bit about
winches. One of the owners of TGM
Maroochydore go is the Warn winch challenge etc, so there must be a lots of other stores such as ARB & Opposite Lock that have staff doing similar.
Electric
winches are suppose to be serviced every couple of years, so it may even be worth while asking how much a service costs.

Thanks again for your advise.

The motor has ended up ceasing from lack of use. For info a new one from Thomas is $396 . Looking at reconditioned costs at present.
