Replying to a post below on the Simpson reminded me of the remains of a Blue Streak Rocket which fell out of the sky sometime in 1966 after being fired from Woomera.

On our north/south Simpson crossing in 1987 we searched for and found the debris of the rocket which lies somewhere to the east of the Plenty River floodout on what is now known as Atnetye(formerly Atula Station).

I have estimated the approximate position as 24 degrees 10.404min South and 136 degrees 56.456min East. We did not have the luxury of a GPS in those days. I did mark the approximate position of my paper map but don't know where I have hidden it :o)

Does anyone know the co-ordinates?

Willem I stand to be corrected, but isn't that the one that has been recovered and now stands at William Creek ?

If so you planing on looking for an old hole in the Simpson ? LOL.

Yeah I know you saw it when Noah was trying to save up for his first 4wd.

Thats the point, I think since you were last there (After the Ark ran aground) is has been recovered and now stands at William Creek, unless of course it is another one.
But my memory is that the one at WC said on the plaque that it came from the Simpson.

But I do stand to be corrected, if someone has a photo of the plaque at WC it should solve the issue.

And no I was not involved in the salvage of the Ark, Johno J probably was though. LOL.

There were remains of something at Giles and I thought it was part of one such rocket. May just be that heaps of these things landed in the desert....I assume the one at Giles travelled further and the one in the Simpson was off course?? Really surprising to look at the quality of the workmanship that went into these things. Trades probably lost by now??

Leigh they shot a lot of these things around, typical British engineering they mostly did not land where they were supposed to.
I guess they are a bit like Land rover today in that point, nothing has changed.
