Saw a Campermatic down at our local trailer repairers the other day. The owner had had an accident and ran off the road.

The car was undamaged but the trailer had a wrecked right side trailing arm on the independent suspension. When the repairers inspected the damage they found that the trailing arm was fabricated from 1.6mm RHS. Campomatic claim they only build trailing arms out of 3mm RHS. Looks like someone grabbed a length of RHS from the wrong stack and built trailing arms out of it.

Now I don’t know how Campomatic run their production lines but I reckon you would get a more than one trailing arm out of a 6m length of RHS. Somewhere out there are probably other trailing arms waiting to let go. Campermatic don’t appear to be interested in checking this out or doing anything about it. They position is that if it’s not made out of 3mm RHS it’s not theirs and therefore not their problem.

If you own a Campermatic it might pay to check the trailing arm wall thickness though I'm not sure how you would do that.

they may have ment it is 3mm after being galvanised. lol. but this sounds typical of some people claiming that the owner took the swingarm off & replaced it with something inferier to go holiday, cant see why he would have done it though

Thats why I brought a Kimberley, they seem to have good production control and seem to want to listen to what you have to say and incorporate your ideas. (not a plug for Kimberley but the staff at five star campers, Swansea, are great).

I think you will find that the trailing arm suspension used is pre-fabricated and sourced from a company such as ALKO or another manufacturer. Most camper manufactures source their suspension components from these companies so Kimberley may well be the same
