Hi

Looking for some advice on my brakes in the gq. When I brake I get pulling on the steering. The side it pulls changes from side to side and the harder I brake the stronger the pull.
It did pass its rego recently with no problem, and the problem was there before the rego check, but I know that they probably just checked that there were brakes on the car for the rego and nothing more.
Anyone got any ideas before I take it to the garage as I like to go in with a rough idea of whats going on to try and prevent them screwing me over!!

spend 20 mins pull the wheels off and have a squiz.

bad scoring on any one of the discs? pop the caliper off the disc - anything look suss or out of place? any leaks around the piston? broken bits? pads still in good condition?

a quick inspection like this can usually give you some sort of clue ... failing that then i suppose you can consider it mechanic territory...

Also worth a mention i guess - how good are your suspension components (bushes etc) and alignment?

Cheers,
Dave

Could be a seized piston in the brake caliper. If it pulls to the left check the right hand side or vice versa.-Steve L.

I had similar problems with my GQ and it turned out to be the slide pin was seized on the LHS. The slide pins can rust and then seize in the the caliper slide which then gives uneven braking from one side of the car to the other.
If you have the same problem and your GQ Patrol is a series 2 1992 and later one then there is a problem with the display for parts in Nissan's computer. From memory it was the top slide bolt which was seized in mine and needed replacing but in Nissan's computer the diagram was inverted so although we were ordering the top bolt Nissan were in reality sending the bottom bolt due to the computer error.
