G'Day all,
I've been thinking about mounting my Garmin 12sat. someware in the Prado
( 120 ), but could'nt find a place I liked until now ....
I thought of making up a s/steel plate as a mounting platform and fixing it to the two grab handle mounting screws on the drivers side front handle( near window ). I'm wondering if anyone else has tried this and did it become a driving distraction in this position?
Regards,
Bazza.

Baz,
I have a GPS 76 Garmin and I have the RAM mount stuck to the window with double sided tape so that the GPS sits alongside the pillar, level with the dash. I bought another RAM mount "ball" and its in the XR6 and the GPS sits in there too same location when I am driving that. I find i use the speedo on the GPS more than the one they supply with the car.
Distraction? Of course it a bleepen distraction, but why have one if you're not going to look at it hahahahahaha.

I've got a Prado120 Auto and had the same issue - i couldn't find anywhere i wanted a permanent mount. Eventually decided to make my own foam rubber 'basket" on the transmission tunnel for the GPS and the UHF mike. Used soft
grey foam from clark rubber & they cut it to exactly the sizes you need .. then spray can glue the pieces together to join it up neatly.
Sits on the transmission tunnel with basically 2 sections: one for the GPS on the right (velcroed in & angled up so the driver can read the display), & one with a slot for the auto lever on the left (also where the UHF mike sits loose - as the remote UHF head is just behind all this mounted under the ashtray). Power is right next to it from the aux 12v outlet. External GPS antenna coax comes through firewall & out through one of the blank switches next to the aux 12v outlet.
Because of the slot for the auto lever it doesn't need to be tied down at all .. several trips & it has never moved.
Between trips takes about 20sec to take out just leaving the GPS antenna coax loose
