Hi all, sorry this is slightly off topic (seeing as it is not 4wd, but i would like to do some touring), but i have the chance to buy an immaculate 97 magna
sedan, from a person i know, for $8750. It is a base model - 3L V6, auto, air, with aftermarket ABS and cruise control.
It has done 101000km.
What does everyone think? i am seriously considering it, as my faithful 88 camry is on its last legs. what do i have to look for? is it going to die any time soon?
thanks heaps, tim c

I cant picture a 97 Magna, if its the current (ish) shape then it sounds a little overpriced, if its the superseded one then its waaaaay too much. At 101000 km's the major service for the V6 has been donne (at 90000 km's) which costs a lot of money as the do the timing belt, worth remembering if you have it last 180000 too. Theyre quiet and under-rated for what they are. An excellent vehicle.

td I've had the same car since new (wifes now) it's done 90,000 and we havent had any problems with it. Economy's good, has the one your looking at had the 90,000 service thats a bigger one timing belt and plugs ect..?
We also traded a 89 Camry in on the Magna.

Good and reliable.
Only trouble I have in the workshop is an occasional one siezes the inlet fuel line into the fuel filter thread.
It should have the black valve covers, if so thats good. The early 3.0 had alloy coloured valve covers and do suffer from oil leaks around that area.
Other than that they are pretty good and end up good buying due to not being a popular car.
Best of luck and have a good trip

Oh thanks for bringing back the horror memories of those stinking fuel filters !! they love to give you a lot of access down on the firewall don't they !!!! And who ever came up with the penny pinching idea of running platinum plugs in the rear bank and standard ones in the front ??
