I am considering purchasing a 2nd hand Hilux Dual-cab, perhaps 2002-04under 80,000kms. I would like to know how the 3 litre Turbo diesel motor performs, both power and economy. Also the torsion bar frontend in off road situations. Any comparisions with the Navara??

Off road they are pretty poor compared with the earlier soilid axle but probably still the pick of the current bunch. The cv's and front crownwheel have a habit of breaking when under stress.

Have a 3l non turbo that is fine, until you come to a
hill. Turn off aircon, and keep changing down gears until you crest
hill................go a turbo. Also, as a commercial vehicle the
suspension is designed to carry weight, not for driver or passenger comfort, most of my
suspension travel is in the
seat and side walls of the tyres!!
The IFS is a problem in the bush, I kept cocking a front wheel and would of course loose traction. Problem was solved with the installation of a lock right diff lock in the front . Now I can go
places lots of others can't .
