Not my topical area, but this VIC legislation relates to so called "PSZ's"
which can be 'declared' in State Forest. I note the ability to move
'unauthorised' persons on.

Just what is the agenda behind this move? Is it simply because walking and
other human interaction can damage 'select' environments?

The Safety on Public Lands Bill 2004 (Vic) was introduced into the
Legislative Assembly on 16 November 2004 and received its second reading
speech on 17 November 2004.

According to the explanatory memorandum, the Bill proposes to establish
public safety zones ("PSZ") in State forests with the aim of enhancing
public safety. Specifically, the Bill proposes to:

(a) authorise the Secretary to the Department of Natural Resources and
Environment to declare an area of State forest to be a PSZ;
(b) prescribe the process and requirements for declaring a PSZ;
(c) provide certain exemptions from a PSZ;
(d) prescribe certain offences in relation to the unauthorised entry and use
of a PSZ;
(e) stipulate the powers of an "authorised officer" in relation to a PSZ,
including the power to direct an unauthorised person to leave a PSZ; and
(f) enable the "Governor in Council" to make Regulations setting aside
certain areas of land under the Forests Act 1958 No. 6254 (Vic).

Does anyone care enought to do anything?
Nah... doubt it.

I get disappointed there is no public activism against all the government charges and taxes and nobody cares or does anything about them
everybody accepts everything and does nothing
I am sick and tired of being ripped off by state and fed govs
I cannot afford all the bloody charges for fishing licences and all the rest of the garbage as I am not a millionaire

Just remember that in their wisdom the citizens of Victoria gave Bracksie an absolute majority to do what he wishes in the state with both houses of parliament. Bend over and enjoy it, obviously this time in his selected forest. He will decide what is good for you. 130kmh maximum speedo readout included.......

Unfortunately, you're so right. I wonder how many wish Kennett was still in power? Arrogant he may have been, but are we now better off?

Sounds like legislation designed to move on protesters who try to block off an area of state forest to stop logging. Declare it a PSZ then you can just go in and arrest all those there and prevent any reinforcements from moving in!

Are they about to start logging some old growth areas and getting ready to deal with the protests that will undoubtly come?

Am I paranoid, or is everyone really out to get me!

Cheers

I also think it would relate to protestors in the forest areas. It is unlikely to affect anyone who just wants to enjoy the forest for walking or driving in.

One thing that has always amaised me with the protestors in the Vic state forests, is when protestors chain themselves together around trees or with chain attached to the arms of 2 people on either side of a culvert, why do the police go to all the trouble of freeing them. They should just let the buggers stay there until their mates cut them free. Would certainly make them think about doing it again, and save the tax payers a lot of money.

Don't seem to have those problems in Queensland.

Greenies and tree huggers are the opposite to the self interested logging industry. being extreme creates change, being in the middle is fence sitting. Before you knock the dread locked few who don't want four wheelers in the parks think about what it would be like if loggin had it's way. We would not have any old growth or animals to visit.
I am glad the tree huggers do the job I don't have the guts to do.

Now off my soap box. I wish you all a happy, noisy trail bike tv in the bush yahoo rubbish leaving free christmas.
