Have an intermitten problem, when the car is under a bit of a load like towing a caravan Max. 1500 KG or going up an incline it makes an intermitten hooting sound and it gets quite loud a little bit like the mating call of the
turtle doves. As soon as the pressure is off the noise stoppes. It does run
well and I can't foult it, Have been aoround Australia twice and it has given me no problems to date at all except that rotten noise. The car is still under warranty and I have seen a couple of Mitsubishi service
places and they don't know what it is and more or less told me they will fix it if I tell them what it is. They are either incompetent or unwilling to do any thing about it or a bit of both. I will be going to Tasmania in March and up in to the Territory in the middle of the year. ( Can't stay away from the
Daly Waters Pub )
I am worried that it may be a safety matter and sooner rather than later I will have an accident because of it.
Can any one out there help me resove this problem, I am at wits end.

Herbert,
Is the noise in a regular rhythm or random? Are you able to estimate whereabouts it is coming from in the Paj?
Re the Mitsubishi service. Best thing to do is contact Mitsubishi themselves, describe what is happening, the difficulty you are having with the dealers investigating it and your concern about it being a safety issue. It's not up to you to figure out what is wrong. They should get in contact with a dealer on your behalf and instruct them to investigate it properly. The dealer would then have to keep them updated on progress.

Savvas
Thank you for taking the time to answer to my question. The noise is at random and comes on when least expected. I am not 100% sure where it comes from, but I think it comes from the front.
I have contacted Mitsubishi now on the address you have so kindly provided and hope something will come from it, I am not too confident if past experience is a guide.
I still would like to hear from anyone out there having experienced a similar problem, or has an idea how to fix it.
Kind Regards
Herbert

Herbert, do you have a
snorkel. I've heard of a problem with induction noise described as a hooting noise. It normally happens at a certain point in the rev range and could be more pronounced under load.

Hi Pat,
Haven't got a
snorkel, somehow I think you might be on the right track. The noise appears at a certain rev range and the way is sounds it could
well be sucking in air somewhere, but where ? I looked carefully at the air inlet and I can't see anything that looks out of place.
