G'day Jason, early jacko's are very under rated vehicle, I've have had two in the past, only changed to a hilux for more ground clearance.
Mine did cape
yorke, (including the crock slide down into
gunshot creek)
simpson desert,
rig road & french line,
snowy mountains, and also doubled up as fast sweep car for the qld rally championships.
Must admit though,
mine was a 2.3 petrol, but it was much better all rounder than my current hilux, horses for corses I guess.

Jason,
I can't help you with info on the TD 2 doors, but just in case you haven't discovered Jackaroo World in
Melbourne here is the address. Great for spare parts new and used. They will deliver anywhere is Aust.

This web site also has tips on problems with most models.
I think the other comments sum up the earlier Jacks. I have a 2.6lt EFI model, an absolute power plant by comparison to the earlier models, but still not up to standard of the more modern cars.
All the best.
