Has anyone had experience fitting taller tyres to T/ Diesel 100's. Would like to change from original to BF AT 265's or 285 but am worried about gearing and wear on engine etc.

Thanks for the feedback. They will be fitted to a new rig so I'm trying to get everything right. Your answer is appreciated.

Dogman,
I have an 04, TD 100 auto and run 275's around town and 285's for going away. I really don't notice any difference in performance (afterall this engine has plenty of grunt) and as mentioned above speedo is out by about 4-5km/h. On a 13000km trip Syd to Perth to Broome to Mt Isa back to Syd the average fuel consumption was about 13.5 L/100km. Vehicle was not heavily loaded but does have a steel roof rack, front & rear steel bars and a few other bits to weigh it down.

Thanks Croozer I'm trying to set up a new vehicle and needed a bit of experience from those in the know. I now run 285's on a live axle, aftermarket turbo diesel 100s but wasn't sure how the factory turbo and IFS handle the bigger tyres. Have you done any suspension work or do they fit in nicely? Appreciate your comments.

Dogman,
The 285's are no problem on the IFS, and I think they are actually more in propotion to the size of the vehicle and as yet have not rubbed anywhere. I have extra heavy duty 50mm higher coils in the back (King Springs, same as TJM) and have had the tortion bars adjusted about 35mm higher in the front. The rear only actually lifted about 30mm as the weight of the Kaymar Bar and wheel carrier kept it down. I have also fitted TJM X9 Adjustable shocks all round.

Cheers,
Stuart
