I have an sd 33 stationary engine with a 24 volt alternator and wiring, all came from an MQ patrol. problem i have is that the hitachi alternator has 2 plugs off it one has 2 heavy guage wires off a pole held on by a nut which i think goes to each battery for charging ? and the other plug has 4 wires coming out of the side of the alternator, there is no field terminal on the casing of the unit so it must be one of those 4 wires i hope. The model info on side of alt says
LT 225 - 60 OY8

Hi, I maybe right off the mark here and totally wrong, but I have a funny feeling that the alternator might put out 12 volts and it charges each battery independant of each other and the wiring to everything else is ran through both and hence become 24 volt. I remember wiring up a 12 volt radio/cass to a sd33 and as long as you went to the first battery there was no problem. I am not sure if that could have been done if the alternator put out 24 volts.
