The island is great at most times - at xmas, it will be excellent but busy ! Virtually all coastal areas have great things to see and do - you'd better get some printed tourism info from Tourism SA......too many top
places to mention here.....if you're into fishing, its great - the
Chapman river at the eastern end of the island is usually full of bream at Xmas (but most are undersized). Most beaches around the island will produce a feed of some sort on request.
Vivonne Bay is marvellous (possibly Australia's best beach, according to a recent survey by 'someone or other'). Quite a few fishing charters on offer from the main
places. One thing is for sure - fishing off the
Kingscote jetty in the middle of the night can be very productive (lots of gar) - leave the middle of the day to the tourists ! Touring the various parks to see the wildlife is good Rocky River has plenty - there are also
limestone caves to see on the southside - If you are after accommodation, you'd better move it. And.......the roads can be very ordinary in
places - quite a few tourists come to grief by trying to cover too much distance per day - take it easy !

Some of the most pristine beaches and waters found anywhere on the planet can be found on KI. Locals are all country folk who treat you
well if you treat them with respect.
Good fresh produce all year round. Most locals can rustle up a feed of oysters, gar and scallops within 3 hours of leaving home.
KI fan, yes I am.
But the cost of the ferry trip?? Renowned as being one of the most expensive bits of
water to cross per kilometre any where in the world.
Well worth the trip, but a week wouldn't give you time to see all there is on offer.

There are a couple of holiday homes set into a
hill overlooking
Hanson Bay, spectacular. 2 minute walk to beach, safe swimming, can be dynamite fishing and very peaceful.
Cheers Peter

Hi Peter
We usually go there after xmas and are working toward going there around the 28th, we stay at a holiday house in pennisure that is right next to the
boat ramp. We spend the days boating and travelling around. Heaps to do and see, grab a map and just plan where you want to go, nothing is far from anything. cheers Ad. Sorry could find my map to tell you exactly what there is there

Went over to KI last year, not sure about
camping but found a great place at
emu bay, coastal and fairly central. I was blown away that the courtesy wave is more alive and
well than here in south west vic, i reckon 90% of cars i met in the first hour, the driver waved. Probably thought i was local, not many tourists there in August!!!

Do It!
We went for a fortnight in April and stayed a month. The locals love people who stay a while-most do a day trip on a bus and see bugga all.
Go to the western end the beaches are superb- wild remote and pristine and you have to walk in which gives you exercise and wildlife.
The ferry is expensive booking thru thr RAA helps. A new service has started up but the vehicular deck is not as
well protected as the Sealink service and in a rough crossing your rig will get salt sprayed, liberally.
Weather in summer is good , can even be cold until the wind goes north then it can be hot!!!. The north coast provides some relief because the wind comes off the
water.
Watch the dirt roads; they can be really slppery because they are covered with ironstone pebbles which are like ball bearings
Enjoy

Maybe I should have pointed out after my enthusiasm for KI's south coast beaches that swimming is a no no even with your best waterwings. These are high energy southern ocean beaches with rips and big bities.
Cheers,
