Rust in GQ

If you have a latter model GQ or have done lots of mud work, long dusting roads etc it might pay to have a good look at the double skins at the rear wheel arches. Recently took the rear mud flats off and found it was covering a small amount of rust that started from the inside. After much prodding and poking I found that the problems is caused from two things. The seams are not sealed that
well and mud and rubbish enters from the outside at the bottom of the two skins. Also dust appears to be drawn into the guard and settles out down in this section. When I spread the skins open I managed to get at least a cup of dust out from each side. If you don't have rust penetrating I'd suggest you drill a small hole from the inside of
the arch and spray heaps of rust proofing agent in there. With the mud flap covering the area you could end up with a rather large hole before you even notice it.

I parked
mine too close to a To-Jo once and within hours i could see the rust trying to jump ship.....don't take the risk anymore.
