After posting yesterday about using a windscreen heat deflector for fridge insulation and getting some great advice I did this.

I went to a carpet store and got some underfelt offcuts for free, cut it to size and "contact" glued it to the back of the windscreen deflector and then duct taped all the joins. It now folds nicely over the back, top and front of the Waeco CF 80, meaning 80% of the fridge is insulated.

Shiny stuff on the outside to reflect the heat and about 15mm of bubble wrap and underfelt to insulate.

I'm off to Marlo on Thursday to fish for 5 days and the temp will be 30C, see how it goes.

Again, thanks for all the advice.

Cheers,

Jim.

Hate to burst your bubble Jimbo but the expensive Weaco covers are dark on the outside and silver on the inside.

It is not so much keeping the heat out but trapping the cold in Was a long discussion of the science of heat transfer in a previous post. Have a look in the Archives mate!

Look forward to your report after the trip.

Cheers
Muddy

Good advice Muddy.

Given it's a portable device I'll try turning it over to put the shiny side against the fridge.

Cheers,

Jim.

duh!
keep the cold in?
steven, heat only flows one one way! higher temp > coolest

simply, the object of insulation, for cooling, is to keep the heat out.
for heating (ie your house) is to keep it in.

Too bad you have already done it - but Clark Rubber sell a self adhesive backed aluminium covered foam which I have used to cover my 3 way frig - works great.

Thanks Colin,

I'll consider that if my home made device doesn't work.

self adhesive velcro strips I'm told are the go for attaching your sunvisor to the fridge... easy to remove for cleaning.
