When I got the Waeco I was quoted about $150 for a 6 amp power supply and declined.

After reading the Waeco manual it stated that the fridge has low, medium, high and turbo settings drawing 36 to 65 watts. My simple mind equates 36 watts to 3 amps so I decided to set it to low at home and run it from an old 4 amp power supply I have (paid $50 for it ten years ago).

Fridge runs like a charm from it and it(power supply) only gets mildly warm.

Experimentation is a wonderful thing.

Jim.

The one for the 80 and 110 litre fridges is $139rrp but is $100 if you buy it with a fridge.

The normal $99rrp is for the 60 litre and under.

These are only the catalogue prices though.

Utie,

I got quoted $50 at Ray's if I bought it with the Fridge ($1249). I went the Fridge Shop at $980. Sure, it's a "second", crack on the base and ding on the back but it keeps everything cold and the marks are nothing that won't happen to it in due course anyway.

Cheers,

Jim.

I was going to drive down and get that too. However the Autobarn deal is about $50 less and brand new. Also the Fridgeshop website says they're out of 80L but I still might get the 110 anyway. Just not sure yet.

Decisions decisions.

The pack i am talking about is the one for the Danfoss 50 so it is usually $139.

I just checked the Jaycar website and they don't seem to have any power adapters to suit (including transformers) that would undercut the $139rrp.

Thanks for the tip Brew69. I'll give the transformer a miss and look out at the sales later.

Evakool have some power adaptors that are also battery chargers.
I cannot remember the price, but at the time I thought they were reasonably priced.

Keep an eye on Big W just after Christmas. I got one which I "doctored" for my Engel last year for about $50 on special. Only doctoring was to fit a marine style plug fitting to match what is in my car and on my fridge.

Jack/Stu,

Thanks for your helpful advice, about up to your normal, helpful friendly standard.

Thanks Chaps.

For the time being I'll give the old power supply a go; it seems to be doing a good job so far.

Jack, I'm heading off for 5 days wuth a mate and will give the "bush" saw a good workout. Let you know about it next week.

Cheers,

Jim.

Jimbo,

When you got your Waeco did you get the 12R-U fridge connection thing? The one that has the two sockets on it with the always on or ignition on switch? It's meant to be free with a CF-80.

I tried to get onto Waeco today to see if they would swap that for a power adapter. They put me throught to the person I needed to speak to but only got his answering machine. Will try again tomorrow.

Utie,

No idea what a 12R-U is.

Can you elaborate?

Jim.

It has the two sockets on it. One cigarette socket and one hella socket. Has the switch on it so the fridge is either on all the time or switched with the ignition.

Better still here's a link.

Geez. Just copy and paste this link. Whenever I hyperlink it a littlegets added to the link and renders it useless.

Hi Jimbo

we got our power supply from the same source that brew did for $99, worked ok, then blew a fuse..and went kaput...they replaced it no probs at all after checking the unit....I also am aware that there is a camping store dandenong way that had them for $99 as well....

Did the same thing with my Waeco Cooler, it _Affordable_Storage_Drawers.aspx 4 amps, run an old 12v power supply I had sitting around and it works a treat, it even fits in the compartment where the genuine one goes! LOL

6Amps might be peak rating on the waco too. If you were to run it at 6 amps it would probally have a 50% duty cycle, which would be ok for a fridge as it cuts in and out.
Of course I am only speculating and may be incorrect.

BUT of course THE cheapest way to run it off 240v is to plug you battery charger with 4amp output onto a spare battery and clip the fridge onto the battery. That way I think no-one would need to by anything, just not as convenient.

I do computers for living and have stocked a pile of obsoleted computer power supply, there are +12Volts(8A) , 5 volts and -12 volts on them. I just hook up the ground and +12 volt with Waeco and it worked very well. You can get a dead unit cheaply.
