Can only take holidays from Christmas to early Feb. What if we cross the Nullabor and visit the Eyre Peninsular? Would it be too hot? Would coastal stops be over populated with families that time of year? Is the fishing any good? Where? What are the sights to see that time of year? What do you locals recommend? We'll be caravanning and fully self contained, but do like to the quiet life. Prefer to "bush camp". Suggestions please. Thanks, Motherhen

It will be hot for sure, but the bottom end of the peninsula around
Coffin Bay and Lincoln NPs will be a bit cooler. Loads of
camping to be had and as it's 7 hours or so away from
Adelaide not too crowded. We did it the week after
easter last year, avoided the public hols and hardly saw a soul. Some great 4WD to be had in Nat Parks, along the coast to
Cowell,
Googs track on the way there or back (that will be Bloody Hot).

Thought we'd take the "detour" via the
Gawler Ranges on the way back - is that what you are referring to? Are the roads all suitable for the caravan? I would have gone that way on our trip to pick up the van ealier this year had i known about it - only read about it when we got back. It was a rushed trip. Thanks, Motherhen

Any coastal spot on the Eyre will be busy, but very nice.
Good fishing, good strong sea breeze every night.
I would be inclined to base myself on the coast proper, as you don't have to go very far inland before the heat makes things a little uncomfortable.
There are plenty of caravan parks, and private beach front properties, one of which is located just outside of
Elliston, run by Craig
Haslam.
I guess anywhere along any coast is going to be busy during this time.
Lots of things to do & see, sort of depends what you like to do.
Cheers
Wolfie

Fishing is great all down the west coast of Eyre Peninsula.
Smoky Bay and
Streaky bay both have good caravan parks. I would avoid
bush camping as it will be hot and the march flies are friendly that time of year. I take it u have a 4x4? If so put
places like
Point Brown,Acraman
Creek(my fav fishing spot..esp if u have tinny but hard getting it there....good shore fishing anyway)
Perlubie beach is worth a look. All the towns down the coast...
Port Kenny,
Venus Bay,
Elliston,
coffin bay etc are great for fishing and all have good areas for
camping. There will be more people at this time of year than usual due to school hol's, but should still get sites ok.
Port Lincoln is a hub of activity and with tuna boats and lots of tuna farms. Forgot to mention Sceale Bay and
smooth pool near streaky.

places you've mentioned. Thanks. Motherhen

If you are sulf sufficient
camping wise then there are lots of
places along the Eyre Peninsula Coast to find an overnight or short term
camp. Most holiday makers tend to head for caravan parks and overcrowded beaches leaving the areas with no facilities alone. You will have to find these
places yourself but as an example..there is a good
camping spot only 1km from the
Venus Bay CP. Isolated and secluded. Lipsom Cove is another lovely
camp spot with pristine white sand and cool waters.

So the wise all knowing knows of
Lipson Cove. A lovely spot but be careful of the rips. It very nearly got me
well before I grew nasal hair.
Venus Bay has good jetty fishing and is good for the kids.
Baird Bay is another secluded area but with no facilities.

That's encouraging. Hope we'll find the spots quiet and the fish hungry. Thanks, Motherhen

Fowlers bay is a great spot. Nice beaches & huge white
sand dunes to drive on.
Cheers Craig........

Thanks guys for all the feedback - just got to convince hubby the farm won't burn down if we go away (any more than it would if we stayed home). It can get quite hot here too - specially if you're working out in the sun - so
the beach sounds great. Motherhen
