Quarantine and inspecation needs change from season to season. Here is a direct link to a 16 page pdf document prepared by the Agricultural department for interstate travellers. It clearly explains the checkpoint locations and what you can and can't take over the borders right around Australia. I will look toward compiling this info within our own Trip Preparation pages on ExplorOz.

There are Quarantine signs when approaching Broken Hill from the east warning of big fines if you are caught. There is no roadblock but there are random searches, so get rid of the fruit before Broken Hill. There is a roadblock over the border (at Oodla Wirra, I think). If approaching the Riverland from Mildura, there is a roadblock at Yamba near the SA border.
