Just a continue on from my last post, as stated we have decided to go to off-road caravan, and have heard about the Supreme Getaway, which is more along the lines of our budget, (would love to buy a Bushtracker, but can only do that in our dreams...) Can anyone tell me about their experiences with them, pro's and con's, what to look out for when buying etc.

Regards
japmel

Hi Japmel,
These vans are prety popular in the outback and in my travels have seen quite a few. When I have spoken to the owners they say that they are more than pleased with the vans. Some have reported teething problems with them, EG. interior fittings not quite finished of and some loose parts after rough roads but most had the probs fixed under warranty with no fuss. Like all vans it is rare not to have a few teething probs when you travel our rough outback roads.
The only point I have found when I was doing my research was that the interior was not spacious enough for our requirements but this was a personal choice. Not a Fault.
Have a look at the Regal site www.ausmanufacturers.com.au/regal
As you can see my unit is a regal and we have travelled most outback roads with very little trouble.
I used to have a handle on life, but it broke.

Cheers Dodg.

Japmel,

Yes I too was impressed by the Supreme Getaway. Other good off-road vans which have similar load-sharing suspension to the Simplicity, have been seen on Roadstar, Evernew and Boroma, so they are worth checking out too.

As I have said before, go to the factory, and go through it from the bottom up.
If part of your research means a trip to S.E Queensland, go to Kedron, Phoenix and Bushtracker so that you can set your benchmark for what you want and what you can or cannot afford. After you've done that your choice will be a piece of cake!!

Good luck.........Rob.

Go to the Caravaners Forum - currently a thread on Bushtracker v Phoenix with a few others thrown in - not quite a rugged as the "N v T" debates that rage on this site though.
http://groups.msn.com/Caravanersforum/messageboard.msnw

My sister has a neighbour who bought an A-van and set off on the big trip - when they returned the A-van had materialised into a Getaway. Found it much more suitable for Central Oz. It looked so tiny though.

We're the third owners of our Bushtracker - it still looks like new, and it has had some adventures around Oz. We found very few (and very expensive) BTs for sale on the on-line sites, so started buying the Caravan Trader Mag which had quite a few, until we found the one that was right for us. Would have looked at the other heavy duty off roaders, but didn't see anything suitable at the time, so went for "the best".

Good luck and happy travelling.
