If you are after a smaller refined car I'd lean towards the Terrano ii .
But I'd say the jackaroo is a better larger car with more interior space .

We bought a Nissan Mistral (Terrano) in NZ last week, 1995 model, very low km and we love it. When we get back to Brisbane next year, the Freelander will be replaced by a Terrano. The Troopy however will be staying in the family - could not part with our Troopy.

The Terrano gearboxes (auto) may be weak if given a hard time towing - otherwise there are no obvious problems that we could see or have heard about.

We have a Terrano II - had 1992 Terrano imort before that - couldn't fault it in over three years and many long, hot trips. The TII -(we have the top of the range) is terrific - no problems - tows our camper easily, economically, and hopefully will take us right round next year - can't see why not. Presume it is diesel? if so they are as strong as an ox in our opinion. Love it.

There's really no reason to worry about the injectors on the Jack. What you need to ascertain up front, is whether the recall on injectors has been performed on the vehicle you're interested in. The way to do this is check with Holden as it should be registered with them. If it hasn't been done, then you need to arrange it with a dealer to get it done..

Starting will be a problem if the wrong engine oil is used. Again, the information is all over this forum and if you use the right oil it won't be an issue. An excellent reference for that is right here (click).

The research you are doing right now is the best move you are making.

If you're interested in doing even half serious 4wding then choose the Jack.

As Savvas said, check that the recall work has been performed & ensure it has a full service history.

Starting problem is not an issue if you're using 5w40 or 10w40 oil. The problem supposedly only occured in extremely cold conditions - i've been to the snow several times & have not had a problem
