Hi fellow travellers,

My family & I travelled around Oz last year, mostly northern & western Aust. We have now moved from Melbourne our home of 40years to Brisbane. Must have been all that outdoor living!!

We are new to this earea of Oz and would like some tips on great camoing spots around here. We don't mind roughing it, have bush camped with our kids for years. We also like a bit of 4wding and fishing. The more beautiful and remote the better.

Any ideas would be great!!

Cheers,

MelanieKep

Gday melaniekep,

Good on you guys for moving to QLD, hope you see it as beautiful as we all do! And expect to be cut off less often but tailed! ;-)

Can recommend Stoney/Sandy Creek out Kilcoy way past Woodford. Depending on how far you wish to travel, Fraser Island, Rainbow Beach, Peach Trees near Landcruiser Park.

Have fun!

Cheers,

Chris.

Start off with a copy of Dirty Weekends, available at most camping stores. Will give you a good sample of what's out there.
4wdriving and fishing? Can't beat Fraser Island. Head right up the top and get away from most of the terrorists.
Welcome to sunny QLD.

HI Mel

Any of the Island, Fraser, Bribie, Stradbroke or Morten are fantastic places and great fishing and 4WDing. Also the sunshine coast hinterland up around kennilworth are great places too

Have fun

I would recommend Carnarvon Gorge also. What a great place. By all means have a look at the main camp ground and walks in this area but also get a map and get over to the western side of the park. Some very good camping grounds that very few people visit.

Bribie Island is the go.

Has pretty well got the lot. Easy drive down the beach, bush camping behind the dunes, fishing, swimming, a couple of interesting sites. Not quite a 'mini Fraser' being close to civilisation but still gives you that 'away from it all feeling'.

Yearly pass $50 I think. Take firewood.

Welcome to the best city in Australia.

Pretty sure a yearly pass is $75 nowadays.

This is an excellent site for Bribie's wartime history.

As well as all the places above, there are some great spots a little south... Sundown National Park, Rover Park out near Tenterfield, Levuka Park near Woodenbong etc......
