Hello,

Just bought an '82 MQ Patrol SWB - only problem is the transfer case is stuck in 2H. Shifter had been previously broken off by the previous owner (or dealer?) who obviously had tried too hard to get it into 4H/L - this has been welded back on but it still wont engage.
Anyone else had this problem?

If they broke the lever trying to get it into 4wd, I would suggest that something terminal in the transfer case....

Or they welded the stick back on but welded it to something they shouldnt have and its now welded into 2wd!

Take a run to a good 4b shop get them to have a look, would be easier than diagnosing it from here.

HI Dan

Mine old MQ patrol desiel had a similar problem. We never figured out what it was exactly, but we dropped the gear box and transfer case out and checked it all out, found it worked when it was out on the bench, put it back in and worked fine. Something could be out of line. Sorry not too much help there, but a similar experience

Thanks everyone for the suggestions,

Just wondering Crazie,

Is it necessary to take the gearbox out to get the transfer case out?

Hi Dan

I dont think you have to,but I wanted to see what was locking up my 4wd lever and thought is was best to pull the whole thing out. Doesn't take too long from memory. I have a MQ work shop memory, I will see if i can find it have a look
