Smocky
Hi all,
Looking to buy a portable DVD player (or 2) for the kids for Christmas. Anyone got any good/bad
feedback on what to buy? Looking at the Shinco from Strathfield. They are cheap, but Choice Magazine gave them a wrap.
In particular, interested in what the bounce interuption is like and things of that nature. Won't be using off road of course, but can be useful on the highways. I travel Melb/Syd a bit and the highway's a bit boring.
Cheers,
Smocky.

Hi Smocky
1 got one from ALDI for $399, 7 inch widescreen, remote, all adaptors, can plug into normal TVs and
home theatre gear, headrest pouch, battery, carry case all came with it. We went 4WDing up to craigs hut and around the high country on the weekend and it did not skip at all. Was very impressed with its performance. I have it hooked into the stereo and have dolby digital surround sound in the 4WD. Think it is a Medion or something like that, from ALDI.
cheers Ads

We did too (got the ALDI one) - took it on the outback trip (only used it on black top) - No issues.
Our friends also had one that gave them a little bit of trouble but we think it may have related to the cig lighter plug - However they were sufficiently peeved to take it back. Got their money back no questions asked.

Hi,
I bought a Teac dual screen DVD player from JB High Fi a few months ago. Used it over a couple of weeks on a long hot trip to the
Pilbara. Worked mostly okay on the bitumen. Didn't try on the dirt.
I sat it on an upturned stable table - ie something that absorbed the bouncy bouncy a bit and it worked without skipping too much.
It has two screens. The DVD can be played through either screen, hung on the back of the front
seat. One screen can have an input from a game console, and the other can watch a movie. It comes with a basic solid state game console. Seven inch screens I thought might be a bit tiny, but given the kids are sitting close, they enjoyed it. Headsets keep it all quiet, sunscreens on the windows to make it nice and dark - tho they do work okay without shading the windows - I was waiting for a call for popcorn out near
Capricorn roadhouse! :-)
There's more about these in the archives.
Tim

Make sure you
shop around, i saw this in Harvey norman for $800 odd dollars, saw identical one in Dick Smith only with their logo for $500 odd.
The only thing is it doesn't have a battery pack or a transformer to run of mains.
Cheers
