Has anyone driven the tracks which are in the Southern Flinders Ranges which sit in the hills between Pt Pirie and Laura? Any 4wd'ing? Just seen them on a map and thought they could be good for a weekend away.

Gossy,

There is some great scenic driving in that area, but the fire trails that you will see are under the jurisdiction of the Wirrabara Forestry people.
You need to have minimum $10m public liability to drive their tracks.

All in all, there are some great drives in that area for general scenery and are better done during the cooler months when everything is still green and moist.

Public Liability insurance! So I guess it's not as simple as driving there and camping?
That's what I was hoping for.

Gossy,

Camping in the forest is not an issue, in fact they have a great area called Ippinitchie camp ground which is very cheap, (I think about $3 per adult per night), and it has a long drop, and firewood aplenty.

Just remebered, fire ban season now, so firewood might not be an option to mention.

Gossy,
just seen your query. I have up loaded the .plt file on the Plotswap files for the round trip we, the Southern Flinders 4 WD Club, used this during the SA 4WD AGM at Crystal Brook. I recommend you travel clockwise and allow 3.5 hours for the circuit - there are a couple of gates. Will give you good view of the Upper Spencer Gulf and take you through the forst and passed the camp ground mentioned earler.
Too little time in the bush!

Sorry it's taken so long to get back. Not sure about the plot swap part of this site but will try and find it. I am heading up there in the new year so thanks for all the replys.
